Second BugerBlog of the week goes to Splitz Grill

To start off this blog I will already tell you that it will be very difficult to impress me especially after the first and thus far best burger I had in La Brasserie.

I heard about Splitz burger when I was talking about my idea of creating a burger blog a few weeks ago.

My friend David who ate their burger while staying in Whistler said that a burger blog in Vancouver will not be completed without a visit to Splitz.

I took his word for it and decided to visit Splitz; why not try a place that calls its burger the legendary Splitz burger.

The Splitz burger I went to is in Vancouver and located on 4242 Main street, you can get more info on their website http://www.splitzgrill.com

As soon as I entered I was greeted by one of the employees asking me if I have ever been to Splitz before, being the honest guy I am I said that I have never been there before.

Without further delays I asked for their signature hamburger or to be more precise their legendary burger.

I also asked for fries which had some good reviews on Yelp.

Their legendary burger came with 1/3 pound of a patty and all the classic add ons; if you wish to add anything that is out of the ordinary like sauteed onions, mushrooms and a few more items you will have to pay for it.

My burger was ready after about 8 minutes which is approximately the time it takes to cook a fresh patty to perfection.

With all the anticipation of hearing about the famous burger and David's voice in my head " Ben you will love that burger " I was sure that this was a home run.

It was not ...

As I had the first bite off the burger my taste buds were overwhelmed with the amount of bun I undertook.

I never thought about it before but the burger bun has a HUGE role in making a great hamburger, Splitz's bun was overwhelmingly full and packed.

Again this is only my opinion but I personally think that a hamburger bun needs to be fluffy like a cloud, not like a Challa bread http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challah .

After I passed through the first few bites I did something I have never done before, I took the patty out of the hamburger added the vegetables on it and ate it without the bun.

That my fellow readers is not a good sign.

The fries were ok, nothing to write home about to be honest.

The bill was very reasonable ( $13 for fries burger and a soft drink )

While visiting Splitz I learned a few things:

1. A bun has an extremely important role in the overall rating of a hamburger.

2. Be wary when someone calls his dish legendary, famous or unbelievable. I'm a big fan of under promise and over deliver rather than over promise and under deliver.

3. Do not listen to my friend's David suggestion's on burgers any more.

Thanks for reading.
